Commissioned by Paideia, the Turku Classical Association (Turun klassillinen yhdistys), as their identity to be used across social media.

The rooster was closely linked to Athena, the goddess of wisdom, crafts and stratagems, and the protectress of the city of Athens. The alertness and combative spirit of the rooster was probably intended to symbolise the goddess' power, and in the Classical era the bird is often depicted on the Panathenaic amphorae, given as awards at the great Panathenaia Games, held every four years in honour of Athena.

The ancient Athenian paideia, or the education of the citizen, was closely tied to the role of Athena as the goddess of intellect, leadership and skills. The ever-vigilant Panathenaic rooster is, therefore, a very apt symbol for Paideia, the Turku Classical Association.
